Locks of Love

We often think of hair loss afflicting mostly men. You know, the commercials on TV with a man looking at his bald spot in an aggravated way, and then putting some cream on that makes his head grow hair again. A beautiful woman fawns over it. But sometimes we don’t think about others who might be afflicted with hair loss. For example, children.

Children lose hair for all sorts of reasons – cancer and chemotherapy treatments to thyroid problems. But it’s always embarrassing and not great for the developing self esteem when it happens, especially for girls. That’s why my sister grew out her hair and donated it to the Locks of Love program, which this article talks about. It’s great to know people are willing to give of their hair to help those without. We often don’t think about it, but our society puts a huge premium on good looking hair. But for reasons out of our control, many people suffer from hair loss every day. It’s great to know people are acknowledging the problem and doing what they can to help.
